I am an artist and author who works with acrylic paint, watercolor ink and mixed media. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art, graduating cum laude in the early 1980s, and had the pleasure of spending a term of study in England, focusing on plein air work and screen-printing.
Because the critique process of formal art education had a crippling effect, I suffered from decades of artist’s block, and turned to crafts and writing for creative expression. I worked in banking & finance, became a wife & mother, and was changed forever by the illness & death of our daughter, Katie, at the age of 12 from pediatric cancer. While raising our son, David, to adulthood, I became an author (“Because of Katie“), speaker and advocate for cancer research.
After much soul-searching, working through “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron, and participating in the Strolls for Well-Being at the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island, I traveled to Portland, Oregon to study with renowned intuitive painter Flora Bowley, and the block dissolved.
Nowadays, I paint in my home studio on the shores of Puget Sound in Washington State, exhibit original work in my gallery and am a facilitator of the Strolls program at the Bloedel Reserve. My avid interest in reading, spirituality, photography, history, walking in nature and observing all of its glorious forms, influences my work, which is in private collections around the U.S., in Canada, Austria and South Africa. Original work may be purchased directly from me, or in my gallery at Savage Plants and Landscape, 6810 N.E. State Hwy. 104, Kingston, WA.
